Heres an account of how our newly-elected county commissioner, Mr. Jack Howard (who happened to run as Democrat), was greeted by one of his fellow (incumbent) commissioners on his return from hospitalization after a major accident last Friday, in which he was life-flighted to Portland and underwent four hours of facial reconstructive surgery and several days hospitalization. Keep in mind that La Grande is still coated in slush and ice: When Jack got back from Portland today he went to his new job to pick up some paperwork. As he walked on the sidewalk outside the double doors of the commissioners reception office, Jack was leaning on (his daughter) Sophie for a little support and because of the ice. He could see (incumbent commissioner) Mark Davidson inside, sitting back in a chair with his hands over his stomach. Davidson clearly watched Jack hobbling up to the front double doors. He just sat there. He did not rise to open the doors for Jack. When Jack made his way into the office, through two sets of heavy doors, he did not greet Jack in any way, he did not acknowledge him. Davidson did not rise to shake his hand. He just sat in his chair. Jack said something to him and he mumbled something at Jack that Jack could not hear. As Jack hobbled out leaning on Sophie, no one opened the door to help. Davidson never rose out of his chair or said a word to him. Hows that for you?
