Heres an echo in time so to speak for you. Following World - TopicsExpress

Heres an echo in time so to speak for you. Following World War One Germany felt its defeat had been a false victory for France, England, and the United States. Germany could have kept fighting but signed a paper peace. They were stripped of land and had heavy reparations imposed further disenchanting the German people and giving rise to the Nazis who were actually voted in (as was Putin). The Germans felt aggrieved and there were many people particularly in England and the United States who felt they had been treated too harshly. At first Hitlers expansion was seen as Germany rebalancing the scales principally at the expense of France who had pushed the harsh policies after World War One and who had occupied lands in dispute from a prior war. Flash forward to a world where Germany has been torn in half militarily and politically by the worlds emerging superpowers at the end of World War Two. Russia was at the height of its power and influence controlling fully the Eastern half of Europe. Not only did they rule the Ukraine their empire stretched from the middle of Europe to the Bering Sea and down to the borders of China and Persia/Iran. Beyond that like the USA it picked up client states like Cuba and was truly a world power that was in a sense unrivaled in history. If you stop to think of it if the Germans were an aggrieved people after World War One the Russians ought to really feel let down after loosing The Cold War to us. In the previous series of events Germany turned and attacked France eventually after Britain and France together gave them six months after the invasion of Poland. Its my hypothesis that the United States will be unable and unwilling to react in any substantial way leaving the Crimean annexation a fait accompli. Id also argue its very likely the Russians are not done and that our military and intelligence communities are going to once again need lots of Russia specialists. If Putins Russia has evolved into a new modern form of Fascism hell keep up with these annexations until confronted or perhaps bogged down in a quagmire or two. Remember. Back in the day these guys were like Napoleon but they won and got to keep everything they occupied. The only thing that stopped them one could argue was meeting U.S. and allied forces in Berlin. If Putin turns out intent on restoring the empire its going to be a very messy situation for us. Hell its already a very messy situation. We really dont need to see a chain of annexation leading to World War Three. Thats another thing of note. Preceding the First and Second World Wars? The Crimean War in essence pitting the west against Russia and setting the stage for the coming world conflicts?
