Mangango Goes to the Polls Amid Violent Campaigns The people of Mangango Constituency are today voting to elect their new Member of Parliament after weeks of sustained campaigns by the participating political parties resulting in pockets of violent scenes. Six candidates have put forward their names on the ballot and will be looking to replace Taundi Chiseke whose seat was nullified by the Supreme Court for corruption. Chiseke was an MMD MP but was serving in the Patriotic Front government against the wishes of his party. Mangango has about 17, 000 registered voters spread across 17 polling stations. Over 350 police officers have been deployed to maintain law and order in the poll that has seen some violent skirmishes occasionally along the way. The ruling Patriotic Front is fielding Rogers Lingweshi while the MMD is going with Charles Mwanzala with the UPND having Godwin Putu. The rest of the candidates are UNIP’s Janet Chingumbu, ADD’s Mweene Naluwa and Fourth Revolution Party representative Mukumbuta Kabuyana who pulled out at the last minute but will still be on the ballot. zambiareports/2014/08/19/mangango-goes-polls-amid-violent-campaigns/
