Heres an interesting snippet transcribed from the Fox 11 TV news story about the West Waterfront Redevelopment controversy, including the FULL quote from Mayor Thad Birmingham that was edited and paraphrased for the print version online: Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmington (sic) also works with the Bridgeport Resort in Sturgeon Bay. He says hes confident the city could support another resort. WE dont feel threatened. I mean I think if there were any two - because this is a boutique, upscale, uh, so I dont really think its attacking the Super 8s and the Comfort Inns and some of the smaller independents in town. Thanks, Mr. Mayor, for the list of businesses that arent under attack. But what did you almost say when you suddenly changed course in mid sentence? It seems like you were going to say, if there were any two businesses in Surgeon Bay that MIGHT feel threatened, it would be Bridgeport and Stone Harbor (31% average occupancy), but WE (at Bridgeport) dont feel threatened. So who IS this development attacking then? And why doesnt Bridgeport feel threatened? Are you (Bridgeport) not feeling threatened because youre feeling confident that youre going to drive your main competition (in the non-boutique, mid priced resort market) out of business?
