Heres an odd little photo toon I did around the turn of the century. I didnt know it at the time but the wasp dragging the spider around was a Tarantula Hawk. It was weird to see a wasp dragging a large, inert spider around. I read later that the wasp invades a tarantula burrow, stings and immobilises the spider and drags it to its nest. Then the wasp lays its eggs on the spider, which has the horrific fate of playing live host to a bevy of hungry wasp grubs when they hatch. This time the wasp nest up a fibro wall with a skirting that was rough and climbable for the first few inches before giving way to a couple of metres of smoothly finished fibro. I was dying to take photos but my camera was out of juice. So I charged it up in the faint hope that the wasp would still be hard at it. In the meantime I watched the wasp climb and fall dozens of times. Talk about an indefatigable attitude! Forty-five minutes later, with charged camera, the wasp was still hard at it. Then it dropped the spider down a crack between the skirting and the fibro wall! The wasp just sat there for several minutes, presumably getting its energy back before flying off. It seemed peeved :) Meanwhile the lucky spider would have woken up a bit later and gone back to its life. sangrea.net/free-cartoons/anim_wasp-and-spider-cartoon-web.jpg
