Heres an out-of-control example of #CrimingWhileWhite: In the summer of 1998, Eli V Manuscript, Michael Lierly, and I, along with Fun And Games cohort Brad Thorne acted in, filmed, and inadvertently co-directed scenes for a video for the band ALL. In a pre-9/11 world, we dressed up in full chemical hazard suits, gas masks, combat boots, and constructed gas guns hooked up to backpacks, then proceeded to wreak havoc on the downtown Little Rock area. It should be noted that we were dispatched from the federal building once we started shooting on its grounds for a few minutes. BUT-- During the process, we decided to shoot ourselves running across a walkway at a bank on Capitol Ave. (I cant see the catwalk on Google Maps anymore-- maybe BoA or Regions?) So we just WALK IN in full costume, go up the escalator with our camera dude, scope out the walkway (which led to another office area), come back down the escalator in gas masks as people begin to notice, go back up while drawing our guns, then (as youll see at 0:59 in the video) we proceed to RAID the walkway. Its hard to see, but an office worker sees us and flings her papers, running in terror down the hallway. We shot it twice quickly, then... We descend the escalator as about 20 cops have lined up at the bottom, staring us down, arms crossed, some ready for action. No guns pulled. No one says a word. We holster our gas guns as we descend, nervously wave to the cops, tiptoe out of the bank, jump back in the van (while being filmed), and move on to the next location. I think about this situation a lot-- and its not just that we couldve been shot. If there were ever a scenario where maybe we SHOULD have been shot, this is it-- four gas gun-wielding terrorists running through the Bank of America. And we walked. Finished filming, got $40 each, and debated driving to St. Louis to see Run DMC with our earnings. Now thats some privilege right there.
