Heres another poorly thought out editorial written by an Indiana newspaper. They basically support HIP 2.0 based on the false equivalency of political dissent. Governor Mike Pence actually sees his health insurance product as a better and more effective alternative to Medicaid because the poorest Hoosiers are asked to pay a portion of the health insurance via a health savings account. Therefore, those in the 1960s guideline of poverty will have to pay a small portion of their healthcare or risk losing benefits. Yet, to pay for Pences version of ACA requires federal Medicaid tax dollars already subtracted from Hoosiers paychecks and going to surrounding states to pay for Medicaid expansion. Hes literally asking the poorest Hoosiers to fund a portion of their healthcare to teach them there is nothing for free or in his own words, so they have skin in the game. Most people in poverty make survival decisions every day on eating, paying for housing, and keeping utilities turned on. Now Governor Pence wants them to track contributions into a health savings account or risk losing health insurance. This is so poorly out of touch it is dehumanizing, yet our newspapers actually promote our governor running onto the tarmac to confront President Barack Obama with this ridiculous idea. Then it goes on to conclude, His idea has drawn criticism from both ends of the political spectrum. That is a good sign, and it actually puts Pence in the company of the president he so adamantly opposes. Not sure whether to laugh or cry...when we see Facebook posts asking why Hoosiers are still voting for republicans - its because of our poorly run newspapers.
