Heres my post episode 1 review, of my in progress review. Knights of Sidonia is a scifi action mecha show set probably a few hundred years in the future, where people are made of silicon. Or at least thats what the stiff character animation leads me to believe. Whatever theyre made of, they know how to perform photosynthesis, no really they do. The main character of this is Nagate Tanikaze, an under-dweller with a knack for surviving massive amounts of blunt trauma. When he finds his way onto the surface the rulers of this apparently Dystopian society take an interest in him because of his link with an old war hero. Its a pretty formula plot with a lot of literally copy pasted character and a 3 gender society. It all lost me however when what Id assume to be the comic relief showed up. Im not going to talk about that, but lets just say its unbearable. The art style is pretty good though, despite the poor character animation. The fight scenes are epic and every background and mecha is very well detailed. Overall first impression, not the best so far but Im interested in seeing what makes this unique and how our hero fits into his newly discovered world.
