Heres some critical advice from Raquel Schreiber for dealing with - TopicsExpress

Heres some critical advice from Raquel Schreiber for dealing with the Jewish holidays coming up while youre looking at courses and preparing for the semester: The second you figure out (or are even thinking about) what classes youre going to take, email the professor about the holidays (and Shabbat, if necessary/applicable). Look at the syllabus and see when assignments are due and when the midterms are. Email the professor about any conflicts and ask for his/her help with figuring out a manageable schedule. Never hold back from emailing a professor - he/she will always be willing to help. (Also never hold back from asking any of us for help - we upperclassmen too are always willing to help.) Heres a sample email; you can update it based on dates, if the syllabus actually has info on midterms and assignment due dates, etc. Dear Professor Person, Im interested in taking [course] this semester. I wanted to let you know that I wont be able to attend class on September 25, October 9th, October 16th, and I cant do any work on any of those days or the Fridays after each one of them because of my observance of Jewish holidays. I hope Ill be able to work out getting in the psets, but I wanted to make sure my scheduling constraints wont be too much of an issue. Are your lectures recorded? I also wanted to ask when the first midterm was scheduled to find out if it falls out on any of those days. I wanted to let you know about this in advance with the hope that you could help me plan out a schedule for my timely completion of the work due during that time and suggest a method for me to not miss out on the information that will be taught on those days. I would greatly appreciate your understanding and input. Looking forward to the semester, [Me]
