Heres something to consider about the history and evolution of movies: How would you compare movies from the 60s with the 70s? The 60s had some great films and saw a heavy dose of war movies like The Longest Day, Dirty Dozen, Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, Battle of Britain, Battle of the Bulge. Landmark movies of that era were the western epic The Magnificient Seven and the War prison escape movie The Great Escape as well as the musical The Sound of Music. The super spy was created with James Bond and Sean Connery. Clint Eastwoods Spaghetti Westerns with Serge Leoni were born. The 70s saw the emergence of a new breed of intense actors De Niro, Pacino, Hoffman and anti-War movies such as The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, and Coming Home and other great movies like The Godfather I and II, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and Midnight Cowboy. The Horror, Disaster and Sci-Fi genre were born during this decade with the Exorcist, Jaws, The Omen, The Towering Inferno, Earthquake, Airport 75, and the Star Wars trilogy as well as Sci-Fi classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind. George Lucas, Spielberg, and Ridley Scott revolutionised cinema with their creations. Ridleys Alien combined Sci-Fi and Horror in an unforgettable classic! One of my personal favourites from the 1960s is Planet of the Apes a remarkable breakthrough Sci-Fi movie with the legend Charlton Heston. One of my favourites from the 70s is the movie Network about the pursuit of money in network television in America. It would be a travesty not to mention the Comedy genre during the 60s and 70s that was defined by Blake Edwards and Peter Sellers with the Pink Panther series.
