Heres the thing about pitching: Every time Im asked to pitch on - TopicsExpress

Heres the thing about pitching: Every time Im asked to pitch on a project, my gut clenches and I think Oh @#$%, I have no idea. Then, I do the research, talk to people I trust, and roll the bigger themes back and forth in my brain. One or two of those little things stick in my head - A theme, or a visual, or a crucial line of dialogue. Those little things gain gravity and pull other related concepts towards them. Thats how it starts to gel. 5-7 days after @#$%, I have no idea Ive ideally got something worth pitching or, at least, exploring further. Its incredibly rare that an editor would ask You got a story for (fill in the blank)?, you say Yeah, pitch it right there and its a go. I have dream characters Id love to write, but I actually enjoy the challenge of being asked to write a pitch for other ones too. The act of researching and coming up with something I care about where there was nothing before, thats a neat creative exercise. My hope is if I can get myself on board a character/concept I didnt have much interest in before, I can do that with new readers too.
