Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Rural Community Engagement Evening Do you have an interest in rural affairs, the county’s heritage, wildlife and equine issues or the local environment? Hertfordshire Constabulary is holding a Rural Community Engagement Evening for anyone who lives or works in rural areas and would like to get involved in helping to protect our local countryside and keep it safe. The evening - which is being held at Police Headquarters in Stanborough, Welwyn Garden City on Wednesday, July 3 between 7pm and 9pm - will give those attending the chance to meet their local rural police officers and the force’s Rural Operational Support Team (ROST). The ROST is a team of police officerswho specialise in rural, wildlife, environmental, heritage crime, equine and traveller liaison issues. They investigate crimes such as badger baiting, hare coursing, nighthawking and the theft of metal from historical buildings. Those attending will not only be able to find out what’s happening in rural areas across the county and have the chance to raise any issues affecting their areas of interest, but they will also be able to find out the best ways to contact police to get support when needed. Spaces are limited and will need to be reserved. Please contact Rural Special Inspector Simon Wintle for further information and to reserve your place as soon as possible on: 01707 354488 or email: [email protected] Rural Special Constables Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Rural Special Constables will also be there on the night to talk to anyone interested in becoming a Rural Special. Like regular Specials, Rural Specials are volunteer police officers who work alongside the regular force. Rural Specials are dedicated to rural communities. Some patrol their local areas on horseback using their own horses or via an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle or Quad Bike). If you are 18 or over and want to give something back to the community for at least 16 hours a month, why not consider becoming a Special Constable or Rural Special? Visit herts.police.uk/specials to find out more. Police Community Volunteers Members of the public can also make a valuable contribution to their communities without donning a uniform through Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Police Community Volunteer Scheme. Visit herts.police.uk to find out more. For further information, please contact Nicola Lawrence, Press & PR Officer, in Corporate Communication on 01707 354498.
