Hey All Paws Fans! Wanted to take a time and share a story on a more personal level, especially being the holidays and all….a little social therapy if you will. Christmas came early for us as we are officially foster parents (Yup! We really are all about pets here). Meet Angie, a.k.a. Angie Mama. We’ve known her since she was a bundle of puppydom at about 10 weeks old. Angie’s had a long, drawn-out life. Her original family wanted a dog, not a pet, and consequently she suffered because of it. Although they did take her for runs and occasionally let her around in the house, she spent most of her time in a cage - peddled back and forth from the basement to the backyard, where usually a bigger cage was waiting. We’d come by and have her stay with us, serving as her “vacation spot” when we could - we weren’t really set up to keep a dog of any type full time. She was never in the greatest of conditions, but recently it’d been discovered she’d been seriously neglected – got a random phone call out that she had been dripping blood and incontinent. They wanted to put her down because she was “getting old and didn’t want to cover the vet bill.” We came over and took her immediately. Along with being filthy and serious emaciated, her “old age” amounted to a severely neglected, openly bleeding wound (an old condition we had previously cared/treated her for). Her incontinence, was from the pain she was in…. She’s staying with us now. After the vet, brought her to her new home, where she got a bath, bandaged up, good food, and a pillow. She’s since put on some weight thanks to eating heartily, endures her wound wrapping/cleansing, enjoys bumping into things with her cone-head, and although she’s a little wobbly on the legs, she’s happiest dog in the world. Hope you all hug your forever pets, and love them for all they are worth – because they love you just that much!
