Hey Everyone! I know this is a long post, but I would love for you - TopicsExpress

Hey Everyone! I know this is a long post, but I would love for you to read this! I thought Id take a moment and share with everyone the reason why I am taking the time to organize the Memory Bowl and Comedy night for the Alzheimer Foundation of Hamilton Halton. Like many people, and I am positive many of you reading this very post, Alzheimers has had a very strong impact on my life. In the past years I have had three of my closest grandparents get diagnosed with this horrible disease. My Grandma Taffy passed away last April to complications from her Alzheimers. At the time when she passed, her body had forgotten how to talk, and how to complete many basic functions. She lived in a Long Term Care facility for six years, and for the greater part of that needed constant care for even the most basic tasks. My Nan has been diagnosed with Alzheimers for a few years now and also lives in a Long Term Care facility. She is doing well, and it hasnt progressed too much in the past years, but the biggest thing with this disease is that it is completely unpredictable. My Grandpa has also been diagnosed with Alzheimers and in just over a year since the diagnosis his has progressed farther than my Nans, in a much shorter span. He lives with me and my family, as well as my Grandmother. There is a sad stigma around aging, and Alzheimers which causes a barrier when it comes to understanding just what this disease is. Even though cases of Alzheimers and Dementia are on the rise, there is not enough funding to increase the resources available to Alzheimers foundations across the country. The Alzheimers Society of Canada and all of its affiliate branches, are an amazing source of resources, free of charge, to those who have been diagnosed with, or caring for someone with Alzheimer. I have seen first hand, over and over again, just what this disease can do to your loved ones, and those who are trying to support them. The amount of love, and caring that is needed to stay strong while you care for someone day in and day out that one day can simply forget who you are. Knowing that this disease runs in my family, makes me scared for the future. Who knows how many times I will walk down the same road... But with caring friends and family, the generosity of others and hopeful advances in the understanding, treatment and prevention of Alzheimers and Dementia maybe someday we wont have to organize events like these. For now, organizations like the Alzheimers Foundation of Hamilton Halton, need all the help they can get to provide the right resources for people who need it. When memories are lost, well be there. With love Jesse
