Some friends recently sent me messages about my diet, I thought I - TopicsExpress

Some friends recently sent me messages about my diet, I thought I would share this again with everyone. My dad has done much research into raw feeding, before I came into epilepsy I was on a premium grade dry food. Dad thinks my new raw diet is better for my health as it has also cleaned up any skin allergies I had in the past, along with a decrease in my seizures. My diet is also a lot cleaner, which keeps my mind and body sharp. My meals all contain 80% RAW meat/bone and 20% RAW vegetable or/and fruit and dependent on weight this 80/20 rule still applies. About a clenched fist is the size of our stomachs but by all means if your pup is looking a little chunky or a little too lean this is something you need to monitor and adjust accordingly. I weight 23kg so my two meals are usually about 400grams each. An example for breakfast or dinner could be: 1. 80% RAW meat/bone: Chicken necks, frames or wings. All dogs should be supervised whist eating chicken frames, wings and necks but it is especially important for us epileptic dogs as we never know when a seizure could take hold. Raw chicken bones are great and act as a natural teeth cleaner. NEVER GIVE COOKED BONES TO DOGS, WE CAN CHOKE FROM THESE BONES SPLINTERING. Tinned fish - sardines, salmon or mackerel in spring water. Canadian brands are best. Sirloin, lamb, chuck steak, turkey or beef mince brought from a butcher as some of the larger chain supermarket may put preservatives in their minces. 2. 20% veggie/fruit i.e.: broccoli, spinach, other leafy greens, carrot, apple (ALWAYS REMOVE THE SEEDS FROM APPLES OR FRUIT - TOXIC TO DOGS), 1 teaspoon of fish oil. Veg and Fruits are best placed in a food processor, this makes the veg/fruit portion similar to our ancestors food, when we would hunt in the wild i.e. eat herbivores such as rabbits and also eat their stomach contents, vegetables pulped are easier for us to digest. Dad and Mum wash my veggies and fruit in the sink, filled with water and a cap full of apple cider vinegar, this removes any pesticides. Apple cider vinegar in small amounts is fine. Apple cider vinegar has been shown to clear skin flaking, improves digestion, makes us less attractive to mosquito bites, etc. I eat morning and night, eating this way is easy on our digestion. This may seem like a lot of work but dad is trying to avoid other health problems as we all know vet bills are costly. Since we have switched from the dry food I have less seizures, no skin allergies, better stools, fresher breath. Price wise it is cost effective also. I hope this helps my fur mates who suffer with allergies, seizures or just wanting to get to optimum health. Dad does not judge other peoples choice of feeding their dogs and does not promote to know all the answers, this is just based on what is working for me. Happy Eating
