Hey Everyone, There is an impoverished area in Ambato, Ecuador where children do not have access to the medical attention that most of us take for granted. Because of this, these children live with difficult physical deformities such as missing limbs, which can be avoided. This February, I am going to dedicate a week of my time to help these kids with an organization called Medical Missions Ecuador (MME). As most of you know, I am currently working over 80 hours a week (between physical therapy school and my job as a personal trainer and gym manager). I only work so hard because I want to excel in a career in which I can treat people to improve their lives. Until I graduate and get licensed as a physical therapist, this opportunity is a unique chance for me to work with and learn from experienced surgeons, doctors, nurses, occupational and physical therapists. On top of taking time out of their busy schedules, all healthcare professionals and students like myself pay for the entire missions on their own. This includes travel expenses, accommodations, vaccines and medical supplies and equipment. The prosthetics, orthotics, wheelchairs, splints, etc. that we fit for the children are all brought and made in a make-shift workshop in the hospital.
