Hey Facebook, hoping you can connect me to the perfect person (no stalkers, please, or chancers, or zombie alien-parasites. Please read the requirements very carefully) Wanted: Half-Day Au Pair For Sweet, Crazy Six Year Old Girl Our previous au pair has found her awesome dream job working at a media company and we’re thrilled for her. We need to hire someone new for 2015. You: should be warm, smart, funny, curious, adventurous, caring, imaginative, awesome with kids, an excellent driver (or willing to go on an advanced driver’s course), fun, happy, irreverent. Absolute requirements: You must be South African or have a relevant work permit. You must have your drivers license and your own car, in impeccable condition and safe. The job would suit a student or someone working part-time, early 20s. About us: We’re pragmatic, optimist humanists and both work in creative fields. We’re non-religious although our daughter attends an Anglican school. The Easter Bunny and Father Christmas are real and so are unicorns and fairies and mermaids and magic. Bonus Extra Points if you are one or more of the following: good at crafts, or sciencey, or very outdoorsy, or geeky, or a primary school teacher or into music or drama. Duties: We’re keeping our beloved and wonderful nanny on because our daughter loves her and we have a responsibility to her and her family. So childcare will be shared with our nanny, allowing you to do some basic PA-type work in the half-day. Our nanny does housework and cooking. • Lifts – picking up from school, taking her to swimming classes or drama other extra mural. • Imaginative play (pretend, dress-up, inventing stories with toys) • Creative play (projects – familiarity with finding cool stuff to make on Pinterest is a plus, but not essential) • Outdoor play (we’re kinda lazy geeks and she needs to do more climbing, running, jumping, ball play, bicycling, forest-walks etc). • Helping develop her interests • Helping with homework, helping her learn to read, or with numbers. • Making up stories. Making up plays. Dancing. Singing. Being silly. • Bonus points for getting her to diversify her diet and try more things esp. vegetables (she eats carrots, broccoli, lettuce). • Bonus points for setting up her own YouTube channel with the stuff she likes (and specifically excluding Barbie and inappropriate music videos – half of Katy Perry is okay) • Some personal assistant duties, depending on who you are and what you’re up for. At the basic level, it’s collecting parcels from the post office, arranging for the car to be taken for a service, or doing admin like sorting out a Telkom problem on the phone. This would be done in the half-day and our nanny would take our daughter for this time. To apply, please send me an email with a statement about why you would be the perfect person for the job with your CV and photo. laurenbeukes (at) gmail (dot com)
