Hey Friends - here is a notice of an upcoming date: November 17, 1986 the Act was signed that created the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and this Sunday is its 27th Anniversary. The act was established with the following purpose: Sec. 3. Purposes (Sec. 544a) The purposes of sections 544 to 544p of this title are - (1) to establish a national scenic area to protect and provide for the enhancement of the scenic, cultural, recreational, and natural resources of the Columbia River Gorge; and (2) to protect and support the economy of the Columbia River Gorge area by encouraging growth to occur in existing urban areas and by allowing future economic development in a manner that is consistent with paragraph (1) So this Sunday when you are enjoying the natural beauty, cultural history and communities of the Columbia River Gorge you can remember that this act has helped to protect those qualities that we all enjoy, and be thankful for the wisdom of an earlier Congress that established this great national scenic area!
