Hey, Gang, I can tell by the old clock on the computer that its time for the One Oclock Olden Treasures Show with ME, your DJ, JD! I try to come to you each and every Sunday afternoon at this time. This time being one pm here in the heartland of America, 2p on the Atlantic, 11a on the left coast, 12p in the mountains, and if youre in Hawaii or Alaska...GO BACK TO BED...Its way early.... Now this week, as well as this whole year, we are honoring those who have passed and left us with a legacy of music. Everything from, rock to jazz, Rhythm & Blues to Classical, nothing is off limits. This week we remember three people who have left us in the world music. First we start another gem, it gives me great pleasure to kick off this week with a woman we lost 17 years ago tomorrow: LaVern Baker. Bakers biggest was arguably Tweedle Dee, but today well be hearing one of my favorite tunes by Ms. Baker, Jim Dandy. Leaving us on March 12, 1955, was the Birdman, Charlie Parker. Parker was the subject of the 1988 Clint Eastwood film, Bird. Today well be hearing Charlie Parkers signature Ornithology. Finally on March 15, 1959, we lost Lester Young. Nicknamed The Pres, Young recorded with the likes of Count Basie & Teddy Wilson. Today, well be hearing Young on a recording of These Foolish Things. Well, Gang that wraps up this weeks show. Be here next as we remember more great entertainers who left their legacy in the music world. Until then, Take Care of Yourselves. Peace, Out! Adios, Kemosabe!!!
