Hey Groovy Crew! You guys have been amazingly supportive during the last few years and my battle with the system. I did the following up for the Air Force Inspector General. I have also sent copies to my Congressional rep and Senator. Love & Stuff to all of you! I am writing to request guidance in the filing of a formal complaint against the XXXst Medical Squadron. In particular Lt Col, XXX Chief of Aerospace Medicine. During the period of 2010 - 2011 I was deployed to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan as Superintendent of an Air Expeditionary Squadron. Midway through this deployment I began to experience a collection of medical issues which increased dramatically upon my return. When I tried to bring this to the attention of the medical unit on base I found that the focus was entirely on the impact of my health issues on completion of my fitness assessment. Shortly after my return I was given a copy of an Air Quality Report from Bagram which had been accomplished during my stay, The report indicated highly unhealthy levels of several contaminants in the air at Bagram. This was primarily attributed to the active use of a burn pit on the base. Around this time stories began to appear in the media concerning health issues related to the us of burn pits within Iraq and Afghanistan. Eventually I collected a fairly extensive collection of these. In October, 2012 I was finally given the opportunity to speak with a doctor from the XXXst concerning my health issues and concerns. I reported with copies of the Air Quality Report and some of the related stories. At this time I fully expected to be met with at least a degree of understanding and guidance from our medical unit, Instead Lt Col XXX took a cursory glance at the paperwork I provided to him and scoffed. At this time I was declared unfit for military duty and not allowed to perform for pay or points. Shortly after this I spoke with SMSgt XXX of the medical squadron concerning my situation. He informed me that a Line of Duty (LOD) Determination would be conducted on my case. From then until February, 2014 I received no updates concerning my status. At that time I was informed by SMSgt XXX that my LOD had been completed and that the Air Force had determined that my health problems were in no way related to my duties. Although disappointed in this news I accepted it at face value and continued on. In October 2014 I requested a copy of the LOD from SMSgt XXX for my records. At that time I was informed that an LOD had never actually been accomplished . Instead I was given a copy of a Memo For Record (MFR) signed by Lt Col XXX. (attached). The contents of this MFR stated that he had determined that an LOD was not warranted in my case. I found the tone of this MFR to be flippant and dismissive. As a war veteran with 32 years of service I feel that I have at least earned the right to have my concerns taken seriously. I have been lied to and disrespected. I will not tolerate this. I am asking that my case be submitted for a formal LOD determination as it should have been originally. I also hope that steps can be taken to insure that a single individual cannot be allowed to assume the role of gatekeeper and stand between any individual and their access to the system.
