Hey Just to follow up on a few comments, questions. Yes we are partnering with Upper Hutt to enable us to provide the best opportunities we can for the boys. We have 9 boys in the training squad (inc Liam who is training with us but playing with NZ u17). 3 boys are development, in that they are young, they train with the squad but are aware they are unlikely to make travel team - but will one day. National league is the highest level in the country. Our boys trialled against the best in the Upper Hutt, West, Wairarapa and further afield regions for the chance to compete in a competitive National League team. If we arent competitive we lose the licence - likely forever. Without Heartland the boys would trial with over a hundred players for 24 Team Wellington spots (if they get to hear about it). If successful they would have to get to Wellington off their own bat 4 times a week for training and home games and organise themselves for the airport trips for away games. They wouldnt have their home crowd supporting them or the advocacy provided by the Heartland Football board. Its not perfect but Heartland at the moment provides the chance for 9 boys to play or train with a National League team and for us as a community to watch NYL football on our doorstep. We are providing a visible entity for our young boys to aspire to be part of - much has been done in the region, by many, to provide a pathway for our talented players - Heartland Wairarapa is just part of that jigsaw.
