Hey Mayor Ed, do you know if the new traffic lights at the bridge use traffic sensors (and what kind)? On my bike this AM (after waving good morning to Tina), I waited through several useless light cycles on Summit without getting a green. There was also a car waiting, but he had driven through the suggested crosswalk stop to the foot of the intersection in what I assume is an invisible zone. He waited through about 2 full cycles before giving up and running the red. I waited obediently behind the crosswalk, moving to the center of the lane. The next car drove around me, through the crosswalk stop and into the invisible zone, setting us both up for more traffic light absurdity (but at least he got around that slow bicyclist!). More cars followed and stopped behind me, and we finally got a green, after another lengthy light cycle. In all, I waited more than 5 seething spiteful minutes, and I was already late for work (as Tina will attest). I saw no sensor lines in the pavement, but there appear to be cameras mounted on the lights. If these are the sensors, they should be recalibrated to at least detect bicycles, if not drivers who ignore the crosswalk stop.
