Hey Zane. Im 21 years old. I have a two year old son. Since Im not married to his father, I understand that Im a single parent even though we co-parent. I know that Im an unwed mother. Heres the thing. My friend invited me to her church several times over the years. She used to invite me to her church a lot, but I used to decline it because Im just not a church person. I never was a church person even though I believe in God. Growing up, my family didnt go to church unless it was for a wedding or funeral. Believing in God alone doesnt make you a Christian just like going to church every Sunday DOES NOT make you a Christian. Well, I went to her church and I took my son. We went there for several months. I liked the church a lot so me and my son started going there often. I was thinking that I need to have a better relationship with the most high and my son could learn too because I dont know much about the bible. My son loved going to church and learning about God. He was always eager to tell me what he learned in Sunday school and I would listen to him. He told me that he wants to see God in heaven so he has to be a good boy for it to happen. Since we started going to church, my son always reminds me to say grace before we eat and he loves to pray. I stopped going to the church recently because I feel like the congregation arent true people of God. They dont act Christ-like at all. I really cant do the 10% tithing thing because its rough right now, but I do tithe everytime I go to church. I even give my son 10 cents to put in since he gets $1 a week in allowance. Thats all he can afford. Hes only two years old for crying out loud! Anyway, these church folks wanted me to give them my bank statements to prove that I wasnt lying. I chucked them the deuces at that tom foolery mess! They embarrassed me and thats not all. They even have a list for the non tithers. Thats a bunch of bologna and its so hurtful that they didnt want to dedicate my baby to the Lord because Im an unwed mother. My son was excited to get dedicated to God and when I told him that we would find a new church home, he cried his little eyes out. I cried too because its quite appalling. At two years old, my baby is very smart. He can spell out his full name, he can tell you and spell out my full name and his daddys full name, and a lot more because I taught him. I know that Im a damn good parent, unwed or not! I dont think that its right for church folks to act like that. Im not the only unwed mother out there so I shouldnt be condemned because of it. Im never stepping foot in that church again. My friend stopped attending the church as well. WWJD? When did church become a business? I live in Savannah, Ga. Does anyone mind me visiting their church? I really dont understand christians at all. Smh!! MY RESPONSE: That is crazy but not a surprise. I hear about these sort of things more and more these days. You definitely need to find a different church and I am sure several people will name many in Savannah, GA. Bank statements and refusing to baptize the baby? Wow! Trust and believe that the people trying to judge you have done things that they would never want anyone to find out about. This is a shame but you will be fine. Kudos on doing such an amazing job as a parent. At the end of the day, God lives everywhere, and He appreciates the love no matter where you give it. Good luck and God bless.
