Hey everybody - its that time of year again. Movember. I know Ive harrassed the majority of you already - I really appreciate the support thats been given over the last few years, but Id like to give it one more try. So Im going to try to make this year a good one! A lot of people see Movember as just a month where guys grow ridiculous moustaches, and it kind of is. Some of them are very impressive. Some of them are not. When I first started I was closer to the Sidney Crosby side of things on the Crosby - Burt Reynolds spectrum, but its gotten better. Its somewhere near the middle now. Movember, believe it or not, is actually about more than just growing moustaches. The moustaches, while hilarious, are grown in support of mens health initiatives. Prostate Cancer research and education is certainly a big part of those initiatives (and what Movember started on), but Movember has a much broader reach than that. Personally, I think the most interesting and beneficial soruce for Movember funds (87% of which go directly to Mens Health Initiatives - very little to overhead) are those directed towards mental health initiatives. These initiatives are widely varied, ranging from those dealing with issues men facing retirement to those dealing with the psychosocial aspects of cancer. A large list can be found here: ca.movember/report-cards. Many of these areas are frequently ignored or underplayed, and Movember serves as a very important funding source for such cases. So anyways, one last push this year for donations! Ive raised about $1000 cumulatively over the past three years, and Id like to add a significant chunk to that again. Ill be updating my Facebook with Moustache progress along with factoids about the different health initiatives your donations will be supporting.
