Hey everyone : ) I got some good news today about our school building campaign in Kenya! I know its been a while but these things take time and i thank you all for being patient. Here is an update i got today from free the children - the organisation that builds the schools. On behalf of the Free The Children family, I would like to take this opportunity to thank your team for your support of Free The Children’s Adopt a Village model by fundraising for a classroom through Change Heroes. Thank you for sharing our vision for a world where all children are free to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change! My apologies for the delay in reaching out with this exciting update for you, but I’m happy to finally be able to share some great news with you, and encourage you to share it with your entire team of donors! We are SO EXCITED to finally share with you that your contribution is being put to work to build the fifth classroom at one of Free The Children’s all-girls secondary schools in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya. Specifically your campaign is supporting the construction of the fifth classroom at Oleleshwa Secondary! Oleleshwa is the name of a local tree that stands for hope and resilience- it is a tree that can continue to thrive even in the face of drought. For this reason it felt like a very appropriate name- especially with the linkages to hope and resilience – for this school. The classroom you are supporting is part of a greater campus of classrooms, labs, dormitories and the like which will eventually house and educate anywhere from 20-40 female students. The classroom you have been matched to, classroom five, recently broke ground this summer thanks to your campaign’s support! As soon as I have photos (I believe we are receiving some from our in country team in the next couple of weeks according to our International Programs team) I will send one your way. In the interim I would like to share a newsletter which is excellent resource for what is currently going on at the school- you are welcome to share this with all of your campaign supporters. On page 4 of this newsletter you can see a photo of the most recent status of classroom 5 – it has begun construction! I have also attached a photo of one of the first classrooms we constructed at Oleleshwa to give you an idea of what the classroom you have supported will look like when it is completed. I also wanted to share a place where you can follow the impacts of your Change Heroes fundraising campaign at Oleleshwa! You can view this report online by following this link: reports.freethechildren/community/allgirlssecondary/ . There, you will find photos, more information on the projects taking shape on the ground, as well as insights into the process of community development and into the life at the school. We hope you will return to this report throughout the year, as the information is updated regularly to share key milestones and accomplishments along the way. Please also feel free to share this with all of those who contributed to your Change Heroes campaign to update them on your campaign’s progress. Once again, on behalf of the Free The Children team and our community partners overseas, thank you, your team and all of your friends who took part in your campaign! We can’t wait to share more with you as time goes on!
