Hey everyone! I hope yall had a great weekend. Mine was busy as usual, but not too bad. I had a rare and precious moment tonight with Jezebel. Shes a very skittish cat and usually bolts the minute I approach her unless shes hungry, then she hovers around my legs while swatting at O-Jay. Tonight, I fed her and the others and took a few photos of them. After I cleaned up the supper dishes, I went back out with our dog and saw Jezzie lying on a piece of scrap wood, just chilling out. She looked so peaceful there and totally relaxed. I put Scotty back in the house - hes not conducive to earning the trust of a cat, to him, they are all toys for his enjoyment LOL - and I approached Jezebel, talking softly to her. She didnt move, just looked up at me blinking, totally content. The closer I got, the moreI expected her to run as she always did, but tonight, she didnt. She just laid there and I almost worried that something was wrong, but no, she let me pet her and talk to her. Owen came up at that point too and I think she feels safe with him around, so I just continued to talk to her and pet her and eventually moved to pick her up. This is not unusual first thing in the morning when shes really hungry but in the evening its not a normal thing for her to let me hold her for any reason, so I figured Id make this count. She snuggled right into my arms and was purring up a storm. Jezzie - purring! She let me give her some cheek and chin scratches and even let me give her a kiss, at which point she turned to look at me, hissed and then continued to purr LOL. Silly girl! The claws never came out though, she was quite content to let me hold her for a good 5 minutes - thats a record! I didnt want to put her down but Owen was clawing at my legs, wanting to be picked up (hes the complete opposite and will suck up any opportunity to be held). It was just such a precious moment between Jezzie and I. Finally gaining some real trust with her. After I put her down, she still didnt run from me so I feel as if weve made somewhat of a breakthrough. Maybe shes finally realizing that Im not the enemy or she was just in a really good mood. In any case, I am taking it at face value and cherishing that moment with her, short as it was. To me there is nothing more touching than that of a cat showing complete trust in you and letting you cuddle with them, especially when they are ferals or semi-ferals, as Jezzie is. Im just so tickled that I got to experience that with her tonight. I recall it took O-Jay a long time to get to this point too, it was at least a year before he would let me touch him and he still ducks his head every time I do, but he doesnt usually run from me anymore. While I was holding her though, I did notice a bunch of tick bites, which means its time for flea and tick medicine again. I thought I had a tube left, but I cant find it. I can divide one tube between all 4 cats, which comes in handy. It worked beautifully the last time and they were flea and tick free for quite some time but I guess it has worn off by now. Its been at least 6 weeks or more. If anyone is so inclined, a Frontline Plus donation would be appreciated right now. My funds are very limited at the moment. I did buy them some food, I wont let them starve, but my PayPal account was hacked on Thursday, they cleaned out my account by adding a Green Dot Money Bank account to it and withdrawing all my money except for $0.99 cents. I went to check my balance, since I was expecting a deposit, which wasnt there either but I still had money in the account besides that and its all gone. I contacted PayPal immediately, spent 90 minutes on hold, but got through finally and they have begun an investigation into the matter. The fellow assured me that the money would be put back but it would take 10-14 days before they investigation is complete. All he could tell me was that someone had made numerous attempts to get into the account the previous night, but there wasnt much info as to where this person was from or who they might be. Very scary feeling because the week before I went to the doctor and since I was a new patient, I didnt know that they did not take debit cards at that clinic, so I had to pay cash. I dont carry cash with me very often but I had no choice but to go to the ATM across the street at a gas station. I am always wary of those ATMs because they arent affiliated with a familiar bank but its all that was available within walking distance. So I reluctantly withdrew the money and now in hindsight, I wonder if the ATM had a skimming device on it and perhaps that is how this person got into my account. Its just a theory of course, but Ive had my PayPal account for years and never had a problem before and a week after using that ATM this happens. Kinda strange, dont you think? Coincidence? Maybe, but I have a feeling something stinks with that machine. I have a cop that lives next door, might have a chat with him about it and see what he can find out. So that is one of the reasons I am appealing for help from my wish list. The money in the account aside from what I used at the clinic was put aside for the cats and while it will be returned to me, 2 weeks is a long time to wait. I still have about 15 cans of wet food left, they eat 2 per day, and I just bought a 16 lb bag of food but they will go through that before the end of the month. I hate sounding like a beggar, I truly do, but under the circumstances I felt the need to put in a request. Thank you for understanding. Anyway, I wish you all a wonderful week. I am expecting a fairly quiet one at the moment but that can change in a heart beat. No telling what tomorrow will bring. Sweet dreams to all of you and your furbabies - see you tomorrow! PS - our Amazon wish list is pinned to the top of our page in Friends of Ferals if you want to take a look. Thanks!
