Hey folks, we are all so fortunate to have more than we need or could possibly use. As you contemplate buying another holiday gift that your friends and family dont really need, please consider giving a greater gift...the gift of education. The New Mayas Society provides education to the very poor in the Ixil region of Guatemala. This area suffered greatly during the violence of the 1980s. For just $400, you can pay for a students education for the entire year. My dear friend Mary Lois Sennewald is very involved with this school and visits annually to help out however she can. She organizes fundraisers in the U.S. and translates and forwards between the students and their supporters. She is very in tune with whats happening at the school and makes sure our money is spent wisely. Gifts of less than $400 are certainly welcome and will go to help the teachers salaries and to buy supplies for the school. Also, you can do like me and divide up your $400 annual student support and send it in installments throughout the year.
