Hey guys, here is my overheating problem that is puzzling me and starting to make me thing the worst :/. Some of the information might be irrelevant, I dunno, Im just gunna write everything from when it started to now. So: Started off when I had a small pin prick in the bottom rad pipe, coolant obviously leaked and it was overheating. Got a replacement pipe, and sorted... So I thought... next thing, it started overheating on stand still and fine when it was moving, especially on motor ways, the fan occasionally came on but then sometimes itd be left to idle after a drive and it wouldnt overheat even after 15 minutes. Other times the fan would kick in, other times itd over heat and the fan wouldnt kick in. So the fan has been hard wired to come on with ignition for now, brilliant, the fan is on now! Sorted!... not... driving to a friends last night after doing that, come to slow town driving (20mph stop starting at lights) and it started to overheat... again... fan still running, now I check the pipes etc, ah, bottom radiator pipe is cold, top is hot... So my coolant isnt circulating!! I got it on a hill after it cooled down and took the rad cap off and yes, there is was, no water in the radiator or overflow tank... but no leaks on my drive way or where I was parked... weird... So I filled the radiator up and overflow tank with the coolant mix I had in the car, go hope and it was fine. Until I was sitting still on my driveway for a few minutes and from what I recall it just started to rise again... So I take another look, and no circulating coolant in the radiator. Took the thermostat out and the coolant started to circulate again, both rad hoses hot, both soft, so the thermostat was the problem! Might that explain why the fan wasnt coming on?... Until I put it in hot water and found out it was opening up fine (after a couple of minutes of it being in water it had opened up about 3 mm gap). So I drove it to work this morning without the thermostat, and temperature gauge barely budged off the bottom of the gauge and both radiator hoses were barely warm and were tough and firm. Heading was very weak but it didnt overheat... However most of the water in the overflow tank had gone... So my question... what the hell is going on. Am I being a dim Shit who cant bleed coolant properly? Is my thermostat not opening far enough? Water pump? Where is my coolant going? Could it be bye bye head gasket? Theres no sign of head gasket failure when I checked the oil, oil looked healthy. The coolant didnt show any signs of head gasket going ether, was told its look like lumpy chocolate milk, this just looked like water, Brown as it always has, but not thick or lumpy. If anyone has any ideas, then please step forward. Thank you :)
