Hey non parent: Im about to be one of those parents you are always complaining about..... OMG I cant believe mah baby boy is 3 years old today! 3 years ago today my life changed forever. I was sitting in the hospital cafeteria, trying to decide whether to get pizza or the fried chicken. Then I realized, you dont HAVE to choose, you can have BOTH! Also my son was born! It was one of the best days of my life. I watched my lover and life-partner do one of the hardest things that a person can do, and to see her give that love and that energy for our son and for our family really inspired me to give more, love harder, be patient, and taught me that when something inside of you has grown too heavy for you to bear, when your protective barrier of metaphoric water has been cast aside, to the point that youre ready to let it go, you have to grit your teeth, bear down, and breathe like this: Tee woo woo woo woo woo. My son has grown from a tiny little baby into an energetic, smart, funny boy who has not lost his childlike compassion and vision of the world. I hope to help him grow in the way he needs, to help him be who he needs to be, and to give him the opportunities to engage his interests in a way that instills a lifelong desire for creating, learning, and succeeding. I hope to teach him how to make fart noises with his armpits and how to build fires. I will force him to play drums for our family band. I hope that he looks to me for support, guidance, love, and companionship our whole lives. Non parents, if youre still reading, yes, you have quite a bit of freedom which I miss. But youre also missing out on living with the best friend you will ever have. Even better than dogs.
