Hey to all my Blazers out there. When I came on as a student - TopicsExpress

Hey to all my Blazers out there. When I came on as a student volunteer in 1993 (which quickly evolved to assistant equipment manager status, and I remained an alumni volunteer long after I was no longer in school), we were a fledgling program, only four years in existence, and most of the students didnt even know we had a team. With a few exceptions, I may have spent the longest duration with the program of almost anyone. During my 11 seasons with UAB Football (my work eventually forced me to “retire” as “The Flash” after the 2003 season), I saw lots of positive growth and changes, as well as some less than positive things and some bad decisions. The 7-5 2004 season landed UAB our first and only bowl game, so far. In the 9 years since, we havent had a winning season, or even a 6-6 “break even” season. If Coach Clark and the team can win just one of the next three games, well be no worse than 6-6, which is at least not a losing season. However, if we can pull off two victories out of these last three games, well have the first true winning season in nearly a decade. Lets all stay focused on the goal of not only keeping, but improving, UAB Football. Let us all remain supportive of Coach Clark & his staff, the rest of the support staff (we can’t forget about the trainers & equipment folks), and especially the players. Let all Blazers unite to show the powers-that-be that UAB Football has become a part of our school and our city, and that we will not go gentle into that good night, but we will rage, rage against the dying of the light (to use a little Dylan Thomas reference). We have come too far in the 25 years since we started as club ball in 1989. We will not back down and give in now! I may live in Destin, FL now, and my work schedule prevents me from getting back to Birmingham for the games, but I still and always will, have Green & Gold in my veins. GO BLAZERS!!!
