Hey yall. Thanks to everyone that has posted or messaged to Xander. We all appreciate it. We may not be able to post back right now, but we see your well wishes and prayers. So, these pictures are Xanders back. When he sits up he hunches over restricting his airway. SMA children are prone to develop scoliosis (curved spine) and some develop kyphosis(which is the hump back). Xander has both. There have been numerous kiddos go in for this type of surgery before and they come out doing wonderful. We pray for that. We pray for pain management. Xanders biggest fear is the pain afterwards. We also pray that Xander is able to come off the ventilator as he exits surgery. Since SMA children have weakened respiratory muscles, it is scary to allow machines to breath for them in situations like this. He could become dependent, but we know Xander is a fighter and he is going to do great :) we will post pictures and updates when we can. Just please know that Xander is able to hear or read all of your thoughts and messages, so keep them coming! Also there is a Vanderbilt website I will post later to send Xander free cards once he is admitted to the hospital!
