THE END OF ISINDEBELE IN BINGA (TONGA-LAND)? The Binga rural district council today passed a measure rejecting the teaching of the Ndebele language in Tonga-speaking areas. The resolution, that is sure to stir controversy, says only Tonga and English should be taught in the district. The council argues that the teaching of Ndebele in Binga amounts to tribal domination. Zimbabwe’s new constitution recognizes all languages, and says each language should be included in school curricula where it is spoken.
