Hi AAPIRC and recent grads. My name is Theresa, and I graduated in 08, and am a former intern. I work at Family Bridges, Inc., a nonprofit in Oakland Chinatown that provides health and social services to new low-income, limited-English proficient (LEP) new immigrants, frail elders, children and families. I am leaving my job as their Executive Assistant to pursue nursing school. My supervisors asked me to try and fill my part-time position, and I cant think of anyone better than another AAPIRC grad! Some of my job responsibilities are: Managing our Covered California endeavors Writing quarterly e-newsletters Public speaking Letter drafting Scheduling meetings Coordinating events Updating our fundraising database Creating publicity materials Grant Writing And other admin/projects set forth by the executives You need not be bilingual in an Asian language. This job requires proficient English skills. A lot of what youve learned at AAPIRC and in organizing will carry over to this job. My supervisors are very concerned with you being able to get the most out of your experience, so if there is an aspect that you are most interested in, they have tried to give me projects that started to boost up my nursing resume; such as coordinating health talks, attending community health discussions, and advocacy of equal access to healthcare. They are quite supportive of your own goals, and do keep your interests in mind. If any of you are interested in this position, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
