Hi Claudette, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Im not surprised by some of the comments you mentioned seeing, but they are disappointing. Many of those who are so quick to point to race as a factor fail to note how white flight and a mass exodus of residents were leading forces in Detroits decline. I think this investigation from the Detroit Free Press makes that point well: Discriminatory practices, such as redlining — denying minority buyers mortgages and access to homes in white neighborhoods — made the process in Detroit and many other cities an ugly one. Unscrupulous real estate agents encouraged white flight by stoking some whites’ fears of black people moving in next door. Rancor ran deep.
