Hi Evergreen friends- A note of thanks, why depart, and a goodbye from Donny and Amy Rose. For those of you in Surrey this past weekend, thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness to Amy and myself as we prepare to move to Nashville. I figured a few people would say goodbye, but what we experienced was nothing short of overwhelming! Hugs, tears, quiet looks of thanks, gentle goodbyes, and kind words to both of us, and even a standing ovation...what! Wow...talk about gold medal moments. We are moved...thank you dear ones. Thank you for kind words for my quartet Madison Park. We were very honored to win, and were so impressed by the other quartets. We dont intend on going to international anymore with my distance, but we do hope to do shows in Evergreen. We already have several shows booked, and we would welcome others. We will keep the same price and just absorb my airfare. Shoot me an email or check our facebook page. Yes, we have CDs and we are very excited how they turned out...it includes our acceptance song with Amy and Melissa on Blackbird/I Will. Thanks to the folks who picked up some in Surrey! Thank you for kind words for Northwest Sound Chorus and our win in the chorus contest. We have had a wonderful journey, and I am thankful to have learned so much from them along the way. I can honestly say I am a better person after our time together. They are in the process of accepting applications for our next director, and we have several candidates. If you would like more information about applying to direct, please contact Dick Gode (Go-dee) @ rgroguedog528@gmail and he can answer your questions, but move quickly. So...A few of you asked me how could I possibly leave a great teaching job (the amazing University Place School district), a water front home, our family on both sides in the area, a pretty great quartet, and a chorus that I am lucky enough to direct? Well, it started last summer. I spent a week in Nashville teaching at Harmony University, and hung out with the staff of the Barbershop Harmony Society. I was struck by two things very quickly... 1) Every single person who works at the Barbershop Harmony Society office is CRAZY passionate about their job. I have never been in a place where everyone is committed at this level...its...weird. The staff is relentless on their mission to grow and make our music relevant to the rest of the world. They stay up till 4 AM to get it right. They are type A nut jobs who simply will not give up. And...its a little understaffed: wow are they frugal with our money, and they work hard for us! 2) I fell in love with these people who work for the society. Imagine a job site where you have no dead wood. Everyone is on board, excited, and doesnt watch the clock. And nice. And caring. Marty Monson as your boss? Any day! How could I not leave Evergreen to help grow our society? Its a slam dunk, even thought Im very scared and excited at the same time. Amy and I are starting the U-Haul adventure the end of October, and will be having an open house goodbye party (not at our house) where all of EVG and SAI #13 are invited to come by. The day we are planning this is Sunday, October 19th. It will be in Federal Way, right off the freeway in a big room we are renting for the day. We will have civilian hours (no singing time) and barbershop hours (singing baby) later in the day. For now, just save the date....more later. :-) Thank you for enriching our lives with your music and your friendship. My cup runneth over with love. Donny
