Hi Everybody....I have a question for you. I love hearing peoples opinions on this... But first, we all know that we tend towards working most in one medium. Of course, we explore as many creative areas as we can...but we still find ourselves attracted to one specific medium...like oils, or wood, or fiber. We fall in love with a process, like the way a brush loaded with oil paint has such a heavy deep pull across a canvas. We fall in love with the look, or the touch...or even the smell of a medium...and it becomes our main method of expression. Understanding that...I ask you, what is your favorite medium with which you create your art? And WHY? As for me...I go through phases, many do. But last year I found a new-to-me medium which has effected me like no other. Metalsmithing. Specifically, making Jewelry...and recently moving into creating sculpture. I am in love. Flat out. Now Ive recently been doing some self examining...questioning why Ive have been attracted so completely to the process of working metal. Ive come to several conclusions...the strongest of which is the Science. I so enjoy the technical aspects and the need of scientific exploration to create new techniques. (If I said I also like the math youd probably slap me, so Ill skip that.) Sure I love swinging a hammer, but mixing chemicals for patinas, or learning how to apply fire for effect is exciting to me! So...tell me about you? Why do you love what you do? What medium is it that fits best in your comfort zone?
