Hi Everyone, I came across a game situation in our tournament - TopicsExpress

Hi Everyone, I came across a game situation in our tournament that made me do some research on it. Funny enough, it was something I actually wrote about in an article but alas, under the pressures of tournament play, I totally missed it. I did additional research to double check this so here goes: The situation: I have a character (a Villain in this example) that deals damage when fielded. My opponent has a character (Magneto) that has a Global Ability that reads, Pay [1 Mask] to reroll a villain die. This is how it played out: I drew dice and rolled my villain. My opponent then paid his energy to activate Magnetos Global and rerolled my character villain to one of his energy sides, thus blocking me from fielding him and leaving me with energy to play with. Let me state, this is not an attempt to question intentions or to suggest anything negative. This post is there to help everyone with the rules and to highlight, with the example, that this specific moment was played incorrectly. Lets look at the rulebook quickly: 1. The Main Step is the first moment anyone can activate an action or global ability. This step consists of purchasing dice, fielding characters, playing actions and globals. 2. In tournament play, the active player takes as many sequential actions as desired (from zero to all possible actions) before pausing and indicating that the inactive player can take an action. 3. Unless otherwise stated, game effects can only target character dice that are in the field. 4. If the die face cannot be in the specified location and its fate is not specified in the card text, move the die to the reserve pool. When you reroll a die, it stays in the same area it was in unless (a) otherwise specified by the card text for the resulting face, or (b) it’s in a location that the die face cannot be (for example, an energy result in the field). If the die face cannot be in the specified location and its fate is not specified in the card text, move the die to the reserve pool. How it should have played out in my tournament situation: 1. I pull my dice and roll my villain. 2. I pay his fielding cost and move him from my reserve pool to the field (Point 2). 3. His when fielded damage activates and the effects are resolved. 4. If I had any other actions to play I then do them all. 5. I pause and ask my opponent if he/she wants to perform an action. 6. He/she then pays one mask energy to activate Magnetos global and my villain is rerolled. (See point 4 to confirm what happens next) 6.1. Rolls a character side: It stays in the field as it is allowed to be there as a character. 6.2. Rolls an energy side. The die goes to my prep area unless the ability said it had to go to a specific area on the board. Conclusion: We played it incorrectly. Luckily it did not affect the game too much. Its a unique situation as one can imagine the game playing out like how we did it. However, the rules are quite clear and as such, the way we resolved that moment in the tournament was incorrect. I should have been able to field my villain before that reroll action could take place as my dice, at that stage, was not in the field and I wasnt done with all the actions that I wanted to perform. I hope this helps everyone out as it sure clears the air for me. Happy dice rolling everyone!!! :D Disclaimer: Ive typed this out on my phone so please excuse any errors. Thanks :)
