A really interesting feature of the subject sails is that they are essentially negative drive propulsion systems. Negative drive propulsion systems experience acceleration rates that increase as the spacecraft travel velocity increases. Provided suitable materials can be produced, my conceptualized spacecraft would experience highly runaway acceleration to infinity scrapper values of gamma factors. However, such materials would likely require non-atomistic or non-quantum-mechanically differentiated Yelm. Yelm would be a form of primitive raw space-time-mass-energy that is continuous. Yelm is a theoretical construct proposed as the precursor material from which the Big Bang originated. By now the reader knows me as an affectionato of extreme special relativistic systems. However, I would happily settle for a sun-diver Carbon Nanotube sailing ship that would reach a mere 0.01 C to 0.1 C in my lifetime. I also have high hopes for fusion rockets being realized in my lifetime. We could in theory obtain moderately relativistic velocities with fusion rockets, and even velocities greater than 0.75 C with very large fusion fuel mass ratios.
