Hi Friends, After two wonderful trekk Sudhagad Fort & Peb - Matheran, Girivihang Trekkers introduces its 3rd trekk to Tung & Korigad Fort on 28th july 2013. Introduction:- Duration - 1 day Difficulty Range - Medium Height - Tung:-3526ft Ghangad:- 3000ft Base Village - Tung - Tungi Village Ghargad - Ghangad Fort is located on the western side of the Mulshi River. This region is also called the Korbarase Maval. The fort is surrounded by other forts like Korigad, Telbaila and Sudhagad and yet it is quite lonely and seperate from the others. It was originally occupied by Koli Samant and then was later annexed by Adil Shah and then later on with the Marathas. One can reach the fort through the Ambi Valley and Ekole is the base village for going to the fort. A foot trail leads to the temple of Goddess Garjai and an inscription about the same can also be found here. Tung Fort was built before 1600 CE. It was built by the Adil Shahi dynasty but was captured by Shivaji. It is small, not being able to hold more than 200 troops at a time. As such, it would not have been able to defend itself on its own for a long time. Its shape and structure suggests that its main function was as a watchtower guarding the road to Pune city. Dhamale family one of the Deshmukh from maval region was charged with ensuring the security of fort tung. During invasion, it served to provide a temporary distraction for invaders. Carry Mat / Old News Paper Stack / Plastic Sheet + Bedsheet 6. A haversack to put all these things. 7. Personal medicines if any. 8. Please avoid bringing valuables, jewellery or expensive things.
