Creature Comforts Great & Small hosted the event to benefit local animal rescue organizations and no-kill shelters that are making a positive difference in our community. The benefactors of the Creature Comforts Friends & Paws Fundraiser Picnic are as follows: First, we chose Dr. Dougs Vet Pet Rescue. This particular rescue is one of only a few certified rescues in Missouri that is run by a veterinarian. We have observed first-hand how Vet Pet Rescue goes above and beyond helping animals of all types find caring, forever homes. By having such dedication to saving animals from euthanasia and unfortunate situations, we have chosen to donate to Dr. Dougs Vet Pet Rescue to help further its mission. Consistent with Creature Comforts values is the mission held by Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic. Their mission is to reduce pet overpopulation by providing an effective, accessible and affordable spay/neuter option. Creature Comforts has been impressed by the many accomplishments and appreciates the outstanding work the Clinic does in helping to reduce the pet population crisis existing for too long. After just a little over two years in operation, Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic has performed over 16,500 spay and neuter surgeries since opening in June 2012, as well as provided wellness services to over 4,000 pets. Specifically, Creature Comforts has selected Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic to help this great organization advance specific plans involving a transportation program. The Clinic plans on acquiring a large stepvan, outfitting it with 30-50 cages and transporting that many pets twice a week from predesignated areas, spay/neuter them and return them to their families the next day. This will allow the clinic to service low income families that do not have transportation. Accordingly, not having transportation is the reason for too many unwanted litters for a segment of the low-income community. So, of the total amount raised during the fundraiser, one-half of the proceeds from the Creature Comforts Silent Auction & Raffle was donated to Dr. Dougs Vet Pet Rescue and the remaining one-half was donated to Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinics Transportation Program. Resulting from the pet food drive, we now have a rather sizable amount of pet food we can donate to Dr. Dougs Vet Pet Rescue and Bi-State Pet Food Pantry, a 501(c)3 non-profit, St. Louis-based volunteer organization committed to keeping companion animals with their families during financially difficult times by providing emergency pet food assistance.
