Hi, I enjoyed my time at Bolam Street school, can anyone remember the name of the male music teacher, the headmaster Mr Sturdy, Miss Barron(old battleaxe) used to rap you across the knuckles with a wooden stick, then the randy male P/E teacher Mr Leaske, having it away with the girls P/E teacher, cant blame him, she was a gorgeous blonde. Leaskie was a bit of a sod, in the winter when we all thought gym would be in the hall, no chance he had us all down to Harbottle Park to do 3 laps, in our gym gear. used to get back bloody frozen stiff. he did not have a cane or strap, if you did wrong, he bent you over the desk, took off one of his huge plimsolls(sandshoes we called them) and gave your arse a right smacking. the only time I hated school, was during music lessons, with my surname being CARR(which translates to something like a wet field) I was nicknamed CARZA, all the class would always sing that bloody local song,(not sure of the spelling) Car hacky thru the watter, with all the kids singing and pointed to me at the same time.then there was the blue eyed ones who got all the best jobs(Monitors) there where monitors for everything, Playgound, Cloakroom, Stairs, Book, Duster, Ink,Blotter. Milk, and even straw monitor, if you used up two straws that was it, no more. sure there was other monitor jobs, cant remember them all, only half the class doing lessons, all the rest monitoring somewhere. then the teachers pets, morning Miss i have brought you an Apple,Orange, Sweets, Bananas(Bananas, they where still as scarce as hens teeth, after the war, if I got a Banana it was not going to the Teacher( I could of been about 12 or 13 before I first saw a banana) wondering if JIMMY FALLON remembers a girl from my class called DIANE(surname I cant remember) I sat in the back row with her, she was the most well endowed girl in the class if not the school, all the lads would spend hours telling her they must be false, which she denied, but refused to to prove it to us. Wonderful mammories.(sorry should be memories) THEY WERE THE DAYS(MH)
