Hi, I would like some advice please. I am a newly-single female having just gone through divorce. I have owned dogs all my life, and only one of the many of my K9 friends have been a pup from a breeder who lived until he was 14, the rest of my dogs have been other peoples cast offs and strays. I usually work for 35 hrs a week and would not ordinarily offer a dog a home that may be home alone for many hours of the day, but I have been suffering from depression and been off work for 10 months now. As a therapist I am fully aware of the joy and companionship that owning a dog brings, and how therapeutic having a K9 friend can be. I dont want it to sound as if I am looking to rehome a dog for merely my own therapeutic needs, which I admit would help me in my recovery, but I am totally dismayed at the amount of beautiful dogs and cats that need a forever home. Therefore, I am asking....would it be appropriate for me to have a dog, or maybe two small/medium sized dogs, when there may be a chance that they may soon be home alone when I am completely recovered and return to work?. I am also considering working part time and having a home business where I spend some of my time at home. What thoughts or advice does anyone have in this regard please and thank you!
