Hi Ladies, I know its a girls only group so I wont stay for long! Just joined to answer any questions about the new club 5k race and to ask you to spread the word etc.... Thanks very much for all the support so far - we have been very last minute but that is due to what I will go onto below and we needed to get various permissions etc. If anyone wants to help out with the organising and promo then please get in touch as we have a 350 limit and need 200 to break even and not there yet! I have seen a few queries on pricing, the basics behind starting the event is due to Gateshead Council changing the way in which our members pay for the track. We are now set to have £8000 less income per year as a club, this will be brought up at the AGM in October, and one alternative to passing that on to everyone through membership price increase and travel contributions was to generate more so a group of us decided to organise a race on short notice to try and bridge the gap. The £15 entry fee includes race T-shirt, goodie bag from the Quayside Business Forum, Chip timing and live results. We will happily discuss pricing at the AGM. The reason for taking on chip timing is that we want a really good event that is slick and professional and fills a gap in the market. As an athlete I get really annoyed when you race and it takes sometimes up to 5 days to get results (i.e I was fastest leg at the North East Road Relays this year and got no award because the results werent ready for a few days after the event). The course is extremely flat and fast and should be perfect for PBs. The 5k distance was decided as the race will fit perfectly for people preparing for the GNR a few weeks after and can serve as the Club Championship with an award at presentation evening (as we have previously pushed for more recognition for the endurance section at these) and as part of selection process for early Autumn Relays where it is often hard to pick current form for that distance as many have been doing track or longer trail races through the summer. -And just a heads up, it costs pretty much exactly the same amount to organise a 5k, 10k, half mara, mara so when you pay more for the longer events its purely for the organisers back pocket ;-) Sorry for the long message but as a club we are trying to support this as much as possible. Cheers, Chris :-)
