McKenzieRyan McKenzie Chip Liedel Nancy Madigan Rietz As you may remember, Hugh & Elizabeth (Eliza) Mckenzie are the patriarch and matriarch of our family. They are responsible for establishing our family line in America. Hugh (July 1813-Jan 1883) is from Narnshire Scotland and Elizabeth Hertage (Mar 1817-Dec 1884) is from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. They are both buried in Potters Cemetery... aka Swan Creek cemetery. Just last week Shannon McKenzie Fisher and I discovered the plight that cemetery has had, and what kind and generous people are working hard to put it back together. Here is a link that will explain some of it. monroe.lib.mi.us/community_info_ash_township_potter_cemetery.htm It has suffered years of neglect and was abandoned. Hugh and Eliza’s graves were turned over and covered with weeds and ivy. They knew of no one from the McKenzie side until now. A gentleman by the name of Mr. Frank Green donated up to $500 to have their graves resurrected and cleaned. This man who knows none of us, restored the dignity of our ancestors for us. Shannon and I are going to visit the grave in June. It would be wonderful to make a generous donation to the “Friends Of The Potter Cemetery” for Hugh & Eliza in Mr Green’s honor. If you would like to join us, please make checks out to Friends Of The Potter Cemetery and send to me. Contact me directly if you need my address. We’ll be delivering the money in the middle of June and will send you all pictures and stories of our adventure.
