Hi Mr Tan, My son is marrying soon. He and girl friend monthly salaries combined exceeded $10,000 but less than $12,000 and can only buy new EC from HDB. They planned to apply in two/three months time for one new EC (still under construction) very near the girl friend parents house. Is this the right timing, ok? REPLY I believe that the HDB and EC prices will remain quite stable, and are not likely to fall drastically as the government had increased the grant for buyers of new flats. As a place to stay for the long term, it is all right to buy the property now. While there is a chance that it may correct, there is also the chance that it may not. It is best not to speculate, i.e. on whether the price will correct or not. For private property, there is a strong likelihood that the prices will correct more severely, due to the oversupply and the restriction on immigration and employment of foreigners.
