Hi. This is Mz.Matriarch. I wanted to share a bit about the performance I will be doing... I have decided to write a song to the instrumental, Runaway by Kanye West. I thought it to be quite appropriate to be able to re-appropriate the original version. Kanye West kind of glorifies the product of a quote on quote A**hole. The song Runaway is about Kanye telling his significant other to runaway because he may be too much into douche bagism. This is my way of putting a womens perspective into context and speaking for all my sisters who have experienced abuse in any way. I am sharing this song to share a story. The song explains a bit of my journey. I have been through so much as a young girl. My teen years were wild. My path became interesting... I dont talk about it too much. Id rather express myself singing a song. My Aunt June always encouraged my singing. Well, in this case, I rap a bit too. I was able to heal myself over a period of time. I really do believe in creator. I really DO believe in myself. I have my culture to thank for that. It has taken several years to get to where I am today, but I am here. I keep a journal and I am constantly writing. I grew up listening to hip hop music. My girlfriend Pattsy got me into it. I have never performed in front of an audience before so I am kind of nervous...uuummmm more excited actually. Anyway... I am sharing my lyrics so that everyone can follow along with me. Rapping can be quick in the scheme of things. *Mz.Matriarch* Verse Im rapping for my Sisters who have been going through abuses Some of us women have been victims, we never choose this After so many bruises you know, you dont have to do this Heal the pain you feel in your heart, thats where the truth sits I knew this, ever since I birthed my kids I grew a bit I slipped through the cracks been to hell n back, Ive been through some shit So I moved from it and decided to seek help It was scary but I was able to tell my mom how I felt I am here to thrive in life and never hide my scars Ive come far and I feel so much pride in my heart Im Mz.
