Hi Zane, Let me start by saying I am a fan of your work as well as your page. I really enjoy reading your emails and responses. Now I know that you have tons of emails and I will completely understand if you are not able to post this. Anyway, here goes. I am a 32 year old woman with 3 children and divorced. I have seen a few woman silently suffer abuse at the hand of a lover because of fear and lack of resources. Yes there are shelters and programs but not enough to meet the needs of my area. I am in the process of starting a non profit organization that will provide emergency assistance, counseling services, legal and transitional services for women and their children/dependants. Leaving a bad situation is scary and sometimes we need a hand. Im writing this letter because I wanted to see if someone could help lead me in the right direction as far as resources and maybe even help me get started. I have already used my own personal resources to help a few. Even if one of your readers has something similar to this program and is willing to help guide my process, that would be great. Any assistance would be appreciated. If anyone is interested to know more, if posted, I will gladly try my best to answer your questions. My sisters keeper MY RESPONSE: You are a blessing. I would start by connecting with similar organizations and asking for mentorship in your endeavors. If they have successfully done it, that is a great starting point and I am sure most would agree that there could never be enough people pitching in. You can always start before you even form the nonprofit by having support group meetings. The women that show up for those can be the ones to help you facilitate a nonprofit because they wll be as passionate about it as you are. Good luck.
