Hi all, From Geraldton we travelled a little inland to a campground called Ellendale Pool on the banks of the Greenough River. At $5 a night per vehicle this was a great cheap camp, good for the budget, and it was beautiful as well, a bonus. Ellendale Pool is a permanent waterhole on the Greenough River which is sometimes dry further upstream. Being only 47kms east of Geraldton and about 450kms north of Perth, it is a popular spot on the weekends for sightseers and picnickers from the local towns and the big city. We arrived at the campground on Friday morning (5 December), all quiet and peaceful, us and the 3 other couples we are still travelling with. Great camp spot, we were able to put our van near the riverbank over looking the pool and cliff face rising above it on the other side. This looked very much like being on the Murray River, and made for great sunset photos. There were flushing toilets and an outside shower, and free gas bbqs which we made use of almost every night, even a playground. Friday stayed quiet and peaceful, until Happy Hour started for us of course - these are now starting about 4pm and lasting anywhere from 6pm til 7.30pm, depending on if someone wants an early dinner !! Then come Saturday and Sunday the tourists arrived, some just looking for a short while, some staying for lunch, even had 3 ladies with their canoes come on Sunday morning for a cruise on the river. That would have been great. We stayed there until Monday morning, then headed back to the coast southwards, to a free camp on the beach called Cliff Head. No facilities here but not a bad spot. Bit of seaweed strewn along the beach, lots of old shacks along the coastline here. Quite windy still but thats something weve come to expect as the wind season apparently goes from October until March all along the WA coast !! We stayed here 3 days, and didnt appreciate the wind until Wednesday when it dropped off and the flies became very annoying !! We didnt attempt any fishing here, Paul was feeling a bit crook so we had 3 days of chilling out, reading, Paul snoozing and me playing Scrabble with the girls. Paul is all good now, ready for the next leg of the journey. We are currently in the small coastal town of Cervantes, in the caravan park for washing and shopping, then away again tomorrow to find some free camping prior to heading into the suburbs of Perth for Christmas. Ciao for now, Love Tania & Paul xox
