Hi all, I wanted to give everyone an update on Scrappy. As you - TopicsExpress

Hi all, I wanted to give everyone an update on Scrappy. As you may know we got him from a shelter in Chicago. He was surrendered to them and he was diagnosed with a Mast Cell tumor on his rear leg. We took him to UW Vet hospital in Madison for an evaluation. They suggested a round or two of chemo to see if we could shrink the tumor enough so that it could be removed with good margins. He ended up having three rounds of chemo. The tumor did shrink but due to the location in the center of his rear thigh it was iffy as to getting good margins. It was also very close to a nerve and muscle. Without good margins the risk of the tumor returning is high and healing might be more difficult. Also he might face another surgery if the margins were not clean. So after much discussion with the staff at the hospital and the other Board members it was decided to amputate his rear leg and let him get on with life. His surgery was last Wed., 7/30 and he is healing wonderfully. He gets around great and can even get up on the couch. He will get his staples removed on Tues. The staff at the UW fell in love with him and even let him hang out in the office/admin area or the surgery area with them. We will be looking for his forever home very soon. Chris
