Hi all, Just want to remind you all about the History Group - TopicsExpress

Hi all, Just want to remind you all about the History Group meeting at the BSO on Saturday 22nd June 2013-The theme of this symposium is Osteopathic and Naturopathic Paediatrics. It will reflect the origins of children’s clinic at our schools; the osteopathic children’s clinic, Kingston Clinic of Natural Therapeutics, plus Osteopathic and Naturopathic Paediatrics historically. We are fortunate to have speakers who have been at the forefront of innovation and change. They not only bring clinical experience over decades but also awareness to help parents cope with dysfunction. Are the child’s symptoms merely an expression of dysfunction within the family unit? Meanwhile, these speakers have outstanding palpatory skills as well as remarkable right sided cerebral intuition (pace Jo Wildy) which will perplex those looking for a more rigid evidence basis. This symposium promises to be as vibrant as the last symposium on Cranial Osteopathy. 10.30am -11.15am plus 15 minutes question time. Stuart Korth DO will discuss ideas on Osteopathic Paediatrics and its evolution. At the same time, Stuart was involved in paediatric training both at BSO and ESO children’s clinics, as well as founding his own internationally renowned children’s clinic and fostering academic course in osteopathic paediatrics . Stuart has been prominent in advancing paediatric Osteopathy throughout Europe and North America. 11.30am-11.45am Refreshments 11.45am-12.30pm plus 15 minutes question time. Jonathan Curtis –Lake DO formerly director, BSO children’s clinic. He was involved for many years running the BSO Children’s Clinic, having taken over from Jill Berthon who previously took over from Muriel Dunning. Jonathan has been at the forefront of developing ideas away from a biomechanical model towards a more biopsychosocial model in the last two decades of the twentieth century. Lunch 12.15pm -1.30pm 1.30pm-2.15pm plus 15 minutes quest time. Stewart Mitchell ND C Phil of the Peninsula Medical School, Exeter and Geneva. Stewart did his early training at Thomson’s Kingston Clinic, Edinburgh in Naturopathy. He will discuss Thomson’s ideas on treating children and include the eternal triangle relationship (child, mother and father) where the child’s symptoms highlights dysfunction within this triangle. Stewart exemplifies some of the traditional skills of earlier practitioners where enthusiasm , charisma and intuition were predominant but appeared essential during the pioneering decades. 2.30pm-4.00pm Discussion Forum Chaired by Robin Kirk MSc DO ND with Stuart, Jonathan and Stewart. This has become an integral part of our symposia.
